Hey fellas, can someone tell me the best/easiest way to change the icp sensor on my 97 psd? Do I need to change the ipr at the same time? Any info would be great.
ICP is a stand alone sensor. Has nothing to do with the IPR (as far as location). I don't have a picture but its on the drivers side head up near the HPOP. Use a 9/16 wrench IIRC and squeeze it under it to unscrew it. If you don't want to grind down your wrench to fit under it gently use vice grips. What problems are you having.
Funny (not really), mine does the same thing. I replaced the ICP, still got the 1211. I bought a new IPR, still get the 1211. I'm just living with it, I don't know what to do about it. Most of the time mine will show up as I'm topping a hill pulling hard and the cruise suddenly drops the power when the speed is where the cruise is set at. I've posted on here and a solution was really never offered, even Joey at Terminator couldn't nail it.
Yeah occassionally it starts hard, I took the banks chip
out and it still does it. It used to be intermittent, but know it's prettymuch all the time. I can clear the code with my programmer, and the truck comes to life, but within a short time the check engine light comes back on, and it falls on it's face! And when the check engine light is on, it's always the p1211 code, and when it's on, it's shifts a little funny, and likes to spew black smoke under acceleration.
When the check eng. light comes on, there is a very noticeable, almost dramatic "change". And like I said before it even seems to effect the way it shifts and everything.
How many miles on this truck? Mine acted like yours when I put my stage ones and a chip in, set a cel easy towing from the 1211, my hpop couldn't keep up.
Do you set the cel just normal driving or do you have to be getting after it some? Mine wouldn't set the cel without the trailer unless I'd go wide open.
It prettymuch comes on while just normal driving. Infact, it comes on basically after startup. Then I clear the code, it livens right up, a few seconds later, the cel comes back on and it falls on it's face again! And it will do that over and over again.
That is really weird, The 1211 is ICP high and uncontrollable and it comes on when you start it?? The HPOP must somehow be spiking at start up, like Darin said see if you can check the pressures.
