Twisted, I feel your pain. I have 180,000 miles on the 05 King Ranch. All highway, I drive about 200 per day. The truck puts food on the table. But lately, its pretty frustrating. HPOP, then FICM, then head gaskets, then turbo, egr delete, another HPOP, and $600 bucks last friday for a new wiring harness from the FICM. Not including the 4 track bars and one set of ball joints, all this on a truck that had all regular service done at the dealer I bought it from. In the last year, I am up to $13,500 on major repairs. The heads weren't done at a dealer, as he said it was just dirty fuel, and sent me down the road with bad head gaskets. Perhaps the most stunning thing is, when I called the dealer to bitch about it, he said, and I quote, " The 6 liter diesel is the reason you see so many Dodges on the road today". Some confidence, huh? In regards to this forum, these guys are the most knowledgeable. I have received a lot of good info reading and posting here. I wish I found this forum 3 years ago, it would have saved a lot of money. I still have the truck, but am considering whether or not to keep it. What else could go wrong, right? The 72 Chevy got me to work today.

I would actually say it's shoddy dealership more then a lack of confidence, unless they really don't know that they do crappy work.
Some people have issues, some do not. Anything that is made by man can potentially have issues like this regardless of what one pays for the vehicle. I site this example a lot, but I personally know one person that dropped over 100k on an import car and in less then 10k miles on the odometer tranny went out and it had the and I quote "7 pages of DTCs related to the tranny".
Here is the issue here twisted. You have taken your experience (unfortunate as it may be) and have applied that to every 6.0 vehicle out there. Things just don't work out that way.
If the 6.0 is such a crappy product and the surrounding parts are crap as well, then why is it that I'm well over 6 figures on the odometer, bigger turbo, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump and yet I have the original EGR and Oil Cooler, 2 of the most evil thought of parts of the 6.0 truck.
It's one thing to vent about your specific experience, it's another thing to vent as if your experiences are the same as all 6.0 owners.
Tex, I in no way imply everyone has the issues I did. Sorry if you thought that. The quote came from the dealer, not me. I have heard that other dealers in my area do much better work, but I bought into the "loyalty" thing at mine and thought I should keep taking it there.
The point is, as you said, some have problems, some do not. I look at the threads on this forum and it looks like most do not. And a lot of those that do not have also listed mods on their trucks that help prevent the problems I have had. This is why I said that I wish I did this Forum thing 3 years ago. I should have said 6 years ago, cause If I would have known what to look for when I first bought it new, I would be a little richer right now. Instead, I relied on the dealer telling me "oh, they fixed all the issues. This one will go 300,000 no problem". I obviously could have done more research before my $50,000 purchase, and should have. I would still have bought it, cause it is a pretty stinkin nice truck. Going forward, I just don't know how much more I can dump into this thing other than maintenance. This is why I ride the fence on selling it.
Tex, Im speaking of my experience alone. I own 2 of them and there both bad, I was at the dealer this morning and the diesel mechanic said, your luck your not that guy over, hes got blown head gaskets along with a list of problems that were just repaired, this is as he was inside the engine compartment of an f550 hooking up the rest of the connections from a complete motor replacement with only 120,000 on it to the tune of $15,000, and a pile of diesels outside waiting for service. I would agree with you tex that it should not be a general statement, but the mechanic tells me that the trucks are in for different things all the time. I took the truck to the dealer because another diesel mechanic I used with my 7.3 wont touch the 6.0's and another said that he has doubled his business thanks to fords 6.0l diesels and couldnt get it in his shop for 3 weeks. Regardless of weather its the actual motor or surrounding electronics, a lot of people have had worry free ownership, a lot have not, unfortunately im having a lot of issues that not just cost money to fix, but takes food off my table because I cant make money with that truck. Apologies to anyone taking this personally. Supertommy, thanks for your support, im sorry to hear your having trouble... Good Luck!!!
that last post should get you a couple friends back. at first it sounded like you were saying all were bad. now when you clarify that mean both of YOURS are bad we can sympathize with you and maybe even offer some help if we are close enough
UPDATE: Picked up my truck late this afternoon after putting out another $1999.40 for a new PCM and new Glow Plug Control Module, I didnt make it 35 feet and my engine light came on, same trans codes as before... They cleared it and I told them not to send my old PCM back that I thinks its fine and they have mis diagnosed it and I dont want to hear I needed the PCM anyway.. Just Saying....

Somedays it the fords somedays its the Chevs.Have more front end problems in Chevs. My operators treat them all the same drive 'em like there stolen.Seem to have better luck with the old 7.3s.But thats life take the good with the bad.Sypathize with the truoble one 6.0 is a Monday truck can't run a month without something happening to it,but ya gotta love 'em.
