I was looking on Craigslist and found a few V10's for under 6k with over 150k miles and got to thinking... Would it be worth it to buy one and rebuild the engine? Of course they are a little rougher around the edges than some of the more pricey ones and might need a little extra TLC but that's where the fun is IMO. So has anyone done this? What would an engine rebuild run approx?
No reason to rebuild at only 150K... Any motor in a vehicle now days should have no problem going 300K without a rebuild.
Agreed. Of course, that is with PROPER maintenance. I bought my truck (V10) with 142,000 miles on it from the 2nd owner. A close visual inspection showed that the truck had not been abused or even used hard, which led me to believe that the engine had not been abused. I easily expect to see 300K out of mine. I better, because I don't ever plan on buying another truck!
Man it's good to know these things will run that long. Well if I go that route then I will have more $$ for the already long list of goodies I want to get for the future X. I wouldn't mind going for a more expensive one but then I will probably run into my credit union not wanting to finance a truck that old. Thanks for the info guys.
Crate? Ford stopped manufacturing the Excursion. Where would you get a crate engine?
Ford in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Just quoted an Excursion owner a few weeks ago 10k installed...
So I had to ask, I was also surprised that they are available, but they are.
$4,600. Motor the rest was labor...probaby this much labor because the truck has an 18" lift.
