yes its to heavy to put but what about if you brace frame and somehow
put 3/4 ton Suspension but for me i'd like the 6.9 in scout or 1980 f100step side
anyways good luck

I have thought of many times a 250 reg cab long box shortened frame and a 6BT
Where would I shorten the frame and how? And would it be shorter than a ranger?

Faster than a mustang ?

Still be able to off road ?

And tow my smartcar, motorcycle, and jeep ?

Shorter than a ranger. Depends on how much you shorten it.

Faster than a mustang. Maybe a sloooow one.

Still be able to off road. Of course.

Tow a smart car. Pretty sure most kids can do this with a tricycle.

It is not nice to mention a smartcar in the same paragraph as an F250.

Don't overlook the Isuzu 4 cylinders Turbo diesels in the NPR trucks. They're a 3.9L that's not quite as heavy as the 3.9L Cummins 4BT but they're not a ton lighter either.

I have a lot of info on them if someone's interested.

That Isuzu is something I'm interested in if it's cheaper than a 4bt and I agree smart car and F250 in the same sentencer is bad but I only roll diesel and my smart car cost ne 1500 dollars and goes 500 Km on a 20.00 tank so it's my daily to work I have 2 f250 and a ranger and want to make 1 f250 and a ranger diesel that's all

Haha now thats funny.

Ok on to the topic. I put a 7.3 (tad lighter than the 6.9) in my 79 F-350. I also used 2001 superduty diesel springs off a crew cab and still had to use a helper spring so the suspension wasnt pure mush. I would ballpark the engine around 1100-1200 pounds, the ranger engine weighs right around 400. Now lets talk transmissions, your ranger tranny weighs in roughly half of what the diesel tranny will. So, if you want to know how the weight will affect the truck, you can get 4 or 5 friends to go sit on the hood.
The 4bt runs around 550-650 in weight, still alot for the ranger, not to mention it still uses the full size transmission. Then theres price, both the 4bt and 6bt run around $4k for a used one and $6+ for a rebuit. Im sure you can find one cheaper, but thats the average. You might check into either a volkswagon or volvo diesel out of a car, but no doubt parts will be just as hard to locate.
I have nothing bad to say about the 6.2 and 6.5 Detroit engines, i know of several that are just as reliable,(if not a little more tempermental) than the 6.9 / 7.3 TBH in some ways they actually seem a little better designed, but they are a bit underpowered for their weight class.

My idea: If i was dead set on a ranger diesel, with a ford engine in it, i would buy it from ford. Problem is, theyre only made for south america and australia. But the point is theyre made, therefore you can buy one, or buy the engine and swap it in. Its a 2.8 litre Powerstroke I-4 twin turbo. 133hp and 338 pound feet. EPA rated at 33 mpg in a 4dr sportbox ranger. There is a guy who did this swap in a bronco ii over on rangerstation.com Claimed it had all the power a 4bt did, and if i recall, he had a 4bt in his f-150.

I do offer my condolences, i know how sad it is to not be able to use an engine due to its weight. I once had a dream of putting a Cat 1160 in my pickup. And well.... 636 cu. in. diesels arent all that light. I could put the 1700lb engine in my truck, sure, but would i be able to USE it?
