I have a 76 f-750 with a 391, are the valves adjustable, you can hear the valves clattering the truck has been sitting for 5 years.

If it has adjustable rockers then yes you can adjust the preload! If not its more complex and involves different length pushrods. Is it sludged up inside the engine????

Does your 391 have hydraulic lifters or solid? If they're hydraulic, pop off the valve covers and tighten them 1/4 to 3/8 of a turn past zero lash.
