Oil Everywhere!

Just wondering if you guys could give me some pointers to info or ideas. On the way home the truck made a soft pop noise. Started running on 1/2 power, and pumped oil everywhere! Not sure how to check the oil rail or the HP oil lines or is it something else? This all went down in like 10 seconds. I was able to coast a few miles to the next exit but what a mess!

Thanks.

Any idea of where the oil might have originated from? Near the HPOP or...?

It could be as simple as an o-ring on one of your rail plugs.
You need to find out where the oil came from first.

Put some oil back in and fire it up.
Look for the leak, shouldn't be too bad if it took that long to spray oil everywhere. If something flat-out blew something (hose) the truck would have died.

Agree with that and Check HPOP and turbo o-rings. YOu have to clean everything very well and look for the leak.

Thanks for the ideas! I believe it is a hose off the HPOP as the oil is everywhere on top of the engine lower. It was a soft pop not a harsh bang(like a rod).

If the oil rail or hose is broken will it spray oil at a harmful velocity?

I didnt understand what you mean with "on top of the engine lower"
If it is a broken hose it will spray hard, the psi could be till 3000+ at WOT, so be careful, and if it is a o-ring it could be slow but continue. Good luck.

I may have a super good deal on a 2007 F-550 (doesn't pull like the 7.3!) as a replacement but am wondering if the 7.3 could have lower end damage.

Is there a better place to order the hoses from (other than stealership(452.10!!!))? It seems that a hose is the most likely suspect at this moment as the oil is ontop of the engine. When the failure happened the truck felt like it went to half the engine power. Highly suspicious of the passanger side line but will put oil in and start it in the next hour or so.

Roentgeep the oil seems to be originating from the top of the engine and running down on everything. Oil is still dripping off the truck! I don't suspect a rod as it seems the oil wouldn't be everywhere on top of the engine.

EDIT:

Just got back in from the shop and the oil is pumping out of the HPOP line going to the passenger side bank. Still had a couple gallons of oil in the engine so I don't think I hurt the bottom end. The truck wouldn't start or even pretend like it wanted to start with the leak. I thought it would spurter a bit.... Is that to be expected?

I think is more common than an o-ring fails than the hose itself, but its possible. If you run out of oil the motor will die, as a form of protection against something else IMHO.

I think you can get the hoses with Riffraff (one sponsor here) cheaper.

I watched the area while it was cranking and oil was coming through the stainless braiding. If I get into it should I replace the orings? Where are they? I will replace both hoses.

It is expected it not starting with the line leaking like that. No high pressure oil to the injectors. Contact Clay, he'll get you going, and I'd replace the orings behind the fittings on the pump.

The o-rings are in the fittings for the hoses, between them and the motor/HPOP and not in the hoses. Id change them too. Call Clay.
