You can always dress warmer There was a guy from BC rode across Canada last January on a KLR650. Very brave guy, but he had studded tires, proper clothing, did a lot of work to his bike to make it winter worthy so it didn't overcool. He had nothing but time and picked his days. I'm pretty sure he made it without incident.
As for the truck, I got it back yesterday. Its all cleaned up and shiny. There were 2 pretty nasty scratches on the front fender that they did a good job of buffing out. I can still see them, and the owner offered to have it repainted for me, but as I know, and he reluctantly stated also, this tuxedo black is a difficult color to match and it might not turn out to match the rest of the truck perfectly.
Took some cell phone pics, I'll try to get them loaded today.
The black does look good, but its going to be a bugger to keep clean, and every scratch and bump will show real quick. FWIW, the interior dimensions of the box are the same as the '04-'08 series F150's. I put a Truxedo Truxsport on the '11 that I'd had on the '08 before getting the Armour Lid cover. The Truxedo isn't the greatest looking cover, it has pros and cons of being a soft cover, but best of all, it cost me nothing extra...
I did take a 5.0 for a drive, basically same config truck as I bought but 5.0 instead of Boost. I didn't like it really. Didn't feel to be much different if any different than my 5.4L... If it was between my '08 and the 5.0 I would have kept my truck.
On another note, filled up the truck this morning with the 1st tank of regular driving, mostly city and some towing, but not much, 15mpg, hand calculated. Far cry from the forcasted 20/30 that the window sticker states I've been trying to stay easy on the skinny pedal as much as possible to maximize the mpg's, but so far its got a long way to go.
Collin how does your bro like the 5.0 so far?? Sherm did ya take a 5 liter for a test as well?
Not sure, haven't talked to him since he got it. My fellow employee has one though and he really likes it. He's gotten 12L/100km on the highway so far which is good for 380 Hp.
That's 380 tq Collin. The 3.7L specs out at 302/278, 5.0 specs out at 360/380, 3.5L EB is 365/420. Either way, 12l/100 is about 22. I sure hope the majority of trucks are getting closer to the window sticker as time goes on. I know a good portion of people have bought the new Ford engines because of the projected fuel economy. They'll be upset if it never gets close.
That little 3.7L v6 has some impressive numbers. In a regular cab truck, or 2wd truck, it would feel pretty happy.
The Canadian fuel mileage rating system is flawed. It's no where near accurate. The best example is a Chevrolet Cruze, its listed at 60 mpg and in the US only 42 mpg. Even if you factor in the different size gallon it still doesn't match.
With my Sport trac I can match the US fuel ratings but I'm 6 mpg less than the Canadian rating.

I have to argue a little. My '08 F150 with the 5.4 was rated @ 18/24, city/highway. On more than one occasion it got 18 around town if I was religious about driving gently and wasn't towing for the entire consumption period. During a trip across Canada, I calculated 24mpg on 4 tanks of fuel, and 24.5mpg on one more, the constant average for the entire trip was 22mpg. I think the window sticker was produced with the intent of putting a robin egg under the skinny pedal.
This EB may never get 30 on the highway on a regular basis, but perhaps once the driveline has worn off the tightness of "new", it may smarten up and get great mpg if a person was to drive easy.
An older gentleman here in town has one of the first EB's that Royal Ford sold. He loves it. He used to have a full fledged backhoe business but has sold out and just does some bobcat work now. He claims phenomenal mpg on a trip thru BC, but says its no different than his '09 5.4L when its towing the bobcat other than being a more capable motor and gets the load moving much quicker.
Little update. On a tank of fuel with about 70/30 hwy/city driving, 22mpg. I've been driving pretty much my normal, not trying to drive in a cushy way to improve mpg's. The motor seems to be getting a little more tone to it. Turbo's are audible now, especially when cold, sounds like a mini-jet on cold starts
My only complaint so far is the small fuel tank. Hasn't been an issue so far, still could probably get 700k or more on a tank, but I fear that when towing for long distance it will be many fuel stops.
