No start when hot...

My F150 351W starts fine cold however after about 20 minutes running if I turn it off, it won't start. When hot it turns over but its like the battery is dead. The battery has been tested and has plenty CCAs. I've replaced the starter, starter solenoid, plugs, wires, DC & rotor. Thought I had it licked...but It still has the hot start problem even with new parts. The ground are all good. On a side note the gas gaguge stopped working around the same time not sure that has anything to do with it. Any suggestions or ideas on the not starting hot issue?

Thanks in advance.

Update

The other night, I cleaned the terminlas on the battery and the connections. Went out this morning and am only getting a clicking from the solenoid.

Once again I checked the wires, nothing seems a miss. Battery tested and good.

I've taken the new starter out and will be getting that tested.

Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

When it cranks slowly, jump 3 & 5 with a small piece of wire (ignition OFF, trans in park or Neutral) and see if the behavior changes. This bypasses the steering-column-mounted ignition switch.

Do you have battery jumper cables? If so, another test would be to use one cable to jump 3 & 6. This will kick a lot of sparks so be careful. This bypasses both the switch & solenoid.

Beyond that, we need more information... what year is the truck, and what ignition system? DSII module? Or EEC IV? Or something else?

If DSII, the original FoMoCo DSII modules have the ability to retard the ignition timing on startup, thereby helping make for easier cranking. I understand aftermarket modules don't have that capability.

Could also be something as simple as corroded battery cables (corrosion underneath the sheath, turns the copper green) and/or a bad ground connection to the engine.

Could be a crappy starter solenoid, the Chinese-made variants have a bad reputation here.

From Franklin2's diagrams:

Not sure what fixed it, but after re-tracing all my steps and adding a new battery, we seem to have it licked.

However I'm a bit concerned it's a wiring issue....
Thanks for all the thoughts.

Check your ground cable as suggested by ctubutis. I also had a no crank issue and it was resolved by replacing a 25 year old crusty totally trashed ground cable to the engine block.
