I recently installed the 05 header panel lights and grille and my hood shuts extremely close to my grille and i have to slam it hard to shut it. im not sure if i put the panel on wrong or not, does anyone have any ideas that might help?
Their rusted to the spot they were in in the factory i cant move them without breaking them ill probably have to get new ones, is there anything else i could try in the mean time? the grille itself just looks really high unless my hood is just closing low, im not sure if its related to the panel or not though ive got the 04 bumper on it as well not the 05
yeah i bought the pre-cut grille off ebay and relocated the clips on the bottom to line up with the 05 header panel, are the hood bumpers the only option? the panel is simple it can only be mounted one way correct? or can it be adjusted up and down or tilted slightly? (sorry if it sounds like a stupid question just trying to evaluate all my options)
I discovered the issue this past weekend when i was looking over the truck in more detail. I realized that my plow frame for some reason comes right up under the header panel which on the 05 panel is a solid bar but on the 04 panel the spots for the clips are set down from the main part. This was causing the panel to sit slightly up and have a slight bend upward which was causing my grille to sit extremely close to my hood. In order to fix this I had to remove the 05 panel and install my original panel until the plow is removed this coming fall and my clearance issue will be resolved.
I'm gonna rep you for 1) asking a good question, 2) responding to an answer, 3) solving your own problem, but mainly 4) telling us the solution you found.
Youre not the first one to have issues because of plows. You didnt say if you had the plow package, but I know lots of people have small problems with stuff like that because a lot of little things change with a plow package but they arent well documented on here because plow packages arent common, and especially not common outside of a fleet.
It does have the plow package, i though it was just more heavy duty suspension etc. i haven't really looked into it much because the plow is going to be taken off hopefully this fall.
Took me a few weeks with work and everything but i took my old stock panel and trimmed it to fit the new 2005 headlights and I reinstalled it. Now my grille clears my hood no problem all issues have been resolved.
Heres the 2005 Header panel installed.
This is with the original panel cut out to fit the new headlights.
