You can use a air hammer and a chisel on the flats of the fan clutch nut.

I've never had a problem with a fan clutch nut, I've always made my own wrench with a fairly long handle and whacked it with a hammer but I can think of all kinds of uses for that tool.

Hammer and chisel, I guess will work, if you are in a bind and changing the water pump and fan clutch anyway.. Keep in mind though that you are beating on the seal and bearing for the pump.

borrow the tool from the auto parts store it also has a wide wrench that slides over the 4 pulley bolts so you get a good grip on the pump.

New Question. I got everything apart and back together after i rented the right tool. filled the radiator and took for a drive to get to temp. at first start the belt was whining, i new that i spilt some coolant and figured that was the belt whining. Well 8 hours of 90 degree heat the belt should be dry. A friend came by and said that was a pulley making the noise. There was no noise when i took off the belt off to change the water pump. i spun every pulley when the belt was off and everything looked good. Is there another way to determine bad pulleys

You can spray wd 40 on the bearings for the idler , if the noise goes away , you know you have a bad bearing. Any chance your water pump bolts are rubbing the timing gear.

I sure hope not. I guess i could loosen them one at a time and see if that helps
