Hey guys ive got a 89 F250 7.3idi, with a zf trans. I had my 100amp alternator tested and it was fine, so i replaced the regulator, and ive still got nothing. Where should i go from here?
Check the fusible link that runs from the alternator to the starter solenoid. When my alternator let out its magic smoke it took out the fusible link as well.
My '93 F250 had a similar problem. It quit charging all of a sudden so I replaced the alternator and voltage regulator and it still wasn't charging. Come to find out the voltometer in the dash cluster wasn't working and for some reason that prevents the alternator from working. I've also been told that if the wire running from the voltometer to the alternator is bad it will prevent the alternator from working.
Look for the small yellow and white wire from alternator to green wire on the starter relay........I believe it is a fusible link.
Do you mean the yellow/white wire changes to a green wire or it connects to it at the starter relay? and do you mean the solenoid on the starter or the starter solenoid on the inner fender?
Aight so i tested for continuity on the Field, Stator, Alternator, and ignition wires, all with KOEO. All had continuity except for the ignition wire. Pre-continuity test i added a ground wire from the regulator to the battery ground to make sure it was grounded.
The B+ wire was replaced with a heavier gauge wire straight from the alternator to the B+.
So I've come up with the conclusion that it has to be the Fusible link to the ignition switch, the ignition switch, or the gauge itself.
I couldnt find the fusible link to the ignition switch though, do you guys know where it is?
