just picked this baby up for $190...small ding in the bottom drivers side corner, that's it though, missing some parts too, which is why im here. I ordered the drivers side hinge and a new handle from the dealership i drive by on my way to work, what else do i need? correct me if i'm forgetting anything, but all the parts are (to fit it on, not counting plastics/trim);
Handle
Rods
Latches
Hinges
Cables
Do I need new latches as well? I'm sure it'll all get figured out at the dealership tomorrow, but I just want to go in there with a knowledge base and don't have time (or the hinge) to tinker with it tonight (4:30am wake-up)
And yes, the FlexFuel emblem is staying on....
How the heck did you end up with a tailgate with no guts in it? Don't forget to remove the key cylinder from your tailgate and install it in the new handle.
If I were you I'd try pulling the hardware off your existing tailgate and installing it in the new one. I don't know why the latches and hardware from your existing tailgate won't bolt right up.

the guy i got it from does insurance claims and got it off a truck that got rear ended...since there was a tiny bit of damage they replaced the whole thing because the labor etc to fix it wasnt worth it, so they just got the core and swapped the guts and were left with this...i figured for $60 or so I could get a hinge and handle (03 handle doesnt work) and have a almost new tailgate for $250.....which is damn good...my tailgate is the weakest link on my truck, its all beat up and bowed out, and starting to rust through on the bottom (massachusetts)
I know the handle is a different shape, but I also know the lock cylinder will fit right in the new handle with no problems. Let us know if the rest fits. I don't see why the latches and rods wouldn't swap over as well.
Since you won't be needing it anymore, what are you planning on doing with the plastic bushing insert that fits in the round hole on the driver side of your 03 tailgate at the hinge fitting?

nice, where about? The GC I used to work for is doing work in Paxton, and the framing/drywall co I am estimating for now is doing some work at 381 Plantation st in Worcester, I'm down there from time to time.

Yea, mine's worn pretty bad. If I'm not careful the tailgate will slide over to the side and not even close anymore. I've got to shove it back toward the center to close it. I need to get off my lazy but and just buy another plastic bushing piece. Maybe I'll do that this week.
