Can you post a video of you examining your replaced lpop? I'm a lil concerned with the grooves you said it had and the metal particles you saw. If you haven't tet, an oil change is due!
Ok guys we ran the truck 20 miles and came home let it sit for a hour and fired right up! Don't wanna get my hopes up but I think we got it ny replacing the lpop and bleeding the air out.
All I gotta say is ... really happy this is working out for you Jim! Reps to Greg and bulla (I'm in jail).

I agree and what caused the lpop to go bad that was recently installed? Maybe you were not clear on the parts he replaced or did not replace it or installed it incorrectly then fixed it. I think I would do an oil analysis 500 miles after an oil change then do another around 1500 miles.
Crossing my fingers for you here in Arizona. Let's hope you got her fixed! And if so, then we now know that a bad LPOP CAN allow the HPOP reservoir to leak down. Maybe having good low pressure oil in the galleries reseated the cold start check ball? I sure would like to get my hands on an extra block and front cover so I can see exactly how the oil system works....
Greg your welcome to look at my builder any time, it's at the Mesa shop it's not tore apart yet!
Oh man do I know how you must feel right now! But the key to figuring it out is to be persistent. Did you check the oil level before you cranked it. I'm talking about in the res. Also did your lp oil gauge on dash come up while cranking? When mine was giving me fits, and the prob was the lpop, I would start my truck and it would immediately die. Then I would check the level in the res and sure enough it would be empty. Fill the reserve and a lil cranking and voilà. It would start. If this all checks out then we should move to the hpop being an issue.
Did you ever throw a gauge on the lpop side and what is it reading now. It's hard to diagnose this stuff w/o the proper tools. I don't seem to get any specific answers out of you so I'm not sure why I'm even trying anymore...lol Good luck, I'm sure it's frustrating...
yea but now it just started having long cranks again. I'm pissed now.
Bummer. Well, at least you are making some progress. We still would like to see the photos of the grooves in the front cover if you can. In the video you posted, the oil pressure gauge showed pressure while cranking during a good start....how about now(when it had the long crank)?
For $25, you can have your used oil analyzed (highly recommended btw...) we can potentially learn a lot by the oil report. It might be a smoking gun or might rule out some possibilities...both are productive.
Just a quick update. Took the truck to my Ford dealer. And #6 injector leaking out. They are re oringing them all and i made them put new glow plugs in for the same price.
I'm reall glad to hear it's settled! I think you should go back on that other shop as it really seems as though they were charging you for their training! That really makes me angry parts hangers just give us all a bad reputation and cost you thousands of dollars of unnecessary repairs! It's criminal!

I'm sorry i was doing all this on my phone and is hard for me to respond to everyones replys. I run my own company, plus work nights, and i am a chief with the Fire dept i dont always have time to respond quickly. I really appreciate each and everyone one of you guys helping me.
Also i do not have all these tools (gauges) nor do i know what to exactly buy. I wonder if we could start a sticky with popular tools and gadgets to help with 7.3's i think this would help many people.
I did try and buy the stuff for making a gauge that Bulla had made but the cheapest gauge i could find at the time was $130 and i didn't want to spend that much when i could put that money towards an AE.
Once again i am sorry if i didn't reply and but i really thank everyone. If there are any questions you want me to answer ask again and now i have a little time i will answer.
