My Dad's 03' F250's U-joints are shot. Is there any difference in taking the front axle apart to replace the U-joints between his truck and my 89' F-350?
I replaced his lock out hubs some time ago and they were very different then mine, so I'm wondering if there are any other differences or are the D-60s more or less the same?
I haven't taken the front end apart on the older Fords, but I have done the bearings/ball joints/axle joints on my 2003. You have to pull the front axles to R&R the ball joints. So, you might want to check out this write-up for replacing the ball joints on a Super Duty. Just stop short of actually removing the knuckle/ball joints. Then, once you have the axles out, just press the old u-joints out, press the new ones back in, and follow the write-up for re-installing everything. There's a couple special tools you'll need to have, along with new knuckle seals. I hope that helps.
The SD front end will be quite a bit different than the older front ends. I've never worked on a '89 D60 so I can't say for sure but if its anything like the D44's then the SD will be different.
You'll have to remove the unit bearing assy to get the axle out.
Then, you'll have to deal with the big knuckle seal on the axle. You'll probably want to replace that seal while you're in there and its a bit pricy (~$50) and requires a special driver to install it & to install the axle afterward.
