My AC works fine in AC mode, but when I switch it to Max AC, it barely blows out air thru the vents? I hear the blower running, but don't know where the air is going.
I have the same problem. It appears that the blower cycles the air to the defroster most of the time, but it will occasionally blow out the vents intermittently.

Yours is a different and simpler issue. You have a vacuum leak somewhere. Usually in the 4WD hub system.

This one is not so simple. I would guess the door in the dash that swings between inside air and outside air is not working. Instead of pulling inside air, it is somehow closed off. Sorry I can't help more than that.

Same thing happened to me 5 or 6 years ago. What it ended up being was that a plastic bag got sucked up in the air intake. When you have it set on max ac it is recycling the air inside the cab were on just ac it is using fresh air from outside the cab to cool. that is why it works fine in ac and not max ac, different air intakes. I believe the air intake in the cab is somewhere on the passengers side, under the dash. Some one else might be able to give you a better idea where it is. Try to find it and see if you can fish something out of the air intake with you hand or a metal hanger. Hope this helps.
Thanks, I was pretty sure it was a vacuum leak, now I have a starting point
Bossfrog, I also had this happen. Actually a lot of us have had this happend to us. If you take a look at some of my old posts I discribed my solution to this problem. Best of luck.
Thanks, I did search before I posted, but my search skills must be deficient. I'll go back and read your old posts and see what they have to offer. Thanks for putting me on the right track
Grab a flashlight and stick your head under the dash under the glovebox. The inside/outside door and vacuum motor are up under the upper right corner of the dash, behind the heater core box. The vacuum motor will have a white vacuum line connected to it.
The only thing in the whole system that is supposed to change when going from normal to max is for that door to open and allow cabin air to be drawn into the blower plenum instead of it admitting outside air. You can cycle the mode switch several times and watch the motor move the door. Do look for a blockage (plastic bag, etc) as suggested.
