So is this the thread you guys want ot start removal of posting abilities in? Really?
I just removed 7 posts in this thread discussing things that were mentioned in my second post on here as no more. That and masked profanity. you got just a little rope and hung yourselves again. didn't even take 2 months for you guys to ignore what you were just told. Worse then 3yr olds. and so you are going to need to be treated like 3 yr olds apparently.
What's the big deal Rob? Nick came in and said hey. I replied back and asked about his truck, he responded as did I. There is absolutely zero tech in this thread, just rants and whining about who starts crap. If it's such a hot button for you that nobody posts in this particular thread, then exercise your mod powers, remove ALL the posts except for the original "changes" comments in the 1st post and close the thread. Coming in with threats of removing posting abilities is just as bad, if not worse than ANY of the off topic comments that have been made here.
rob, define tech? find me a question on here that hasn't been answered to the best of our abilities. seriously. and we can't exactly force people into posting in here. with the exception of the canadian tire jockey who knew nothing of tire fitment we have been more than "kinder/gentler" with recent newbs who have stopped in. every bit of rep i have got in here has one of two tag lines attached to them, 1. thanks for all the help, or 2. haha, you offroad guys are a hoot! i always have a good time in this forum. and as to the b/s, we've been keeping to the b/s threads for the most part, at least better than before for sure. and just cause i don't post much outside of offroad doesn't mean i don't get around the rest of the site, we're not even touching the top 25% when it comes to the amount of bs'ing when compared to the solid amount of threads/correct answers v.s. b/s'ing and bad info. if you have a 4x4 related question and want a good, quick, correct reply that will help you or save you time post it up in here. it's sure to be answered to some extent, or at the very least we will send you in the right direction of where to find the info you need. of course we don't have all the answers, and 90% of the time we get really vague half arsed questions with little to no info given, and yeah we may give a newb a little bit of razzing, but without getting them to give more info there's no guarantee of a good answer for them. there's always talk of running off newbs, which is false as all get out. look at the vast amount of newbs that come in asking questions. they'll start off with a simple question as their first post, no introduction or anything, barely give any info yet still get an answer, they make maybe 2 or 3 replies to their own thread and they are gone because they had no intentions of sticking around. you can say it's because we are big meanie heads, but i like to take the more realistic approach of they had no effing plans of sticking around to begin with. it's part of times changing. people want instant gratification. they come in, want free answers without contributing jack squat because they can't use google or the search feature well enough to get anymore of an answer than whatever leads them here, and then move along once their issue is fixed.
and as to actual tech, if you are talking write-ups, when was the last time anyone paid attention to the sticky's besides us linking newbs to them? newbs like the ones i mentioned don't look at those, let alone search through them for info. i basically gave a mini write-up on ford d60's in the "lifted truck add ons" thread the other day since we get a metric crap load of the same damn questions about them, did it get any recognition as "tech"? no hell, if you want, come up with a topic a week and we can all contribute as much good actual honest info and pics to add together to start making tech stickies, but i doubt it will do any good, and none of us have mod powers to cut and splice threads together and make them stickies, or add them to the existing stickies.
whatever with your almost monthly blowups. like i said we can't force folks to join up. there are always 20++ people viewing the offroad forum, yet there is less than 8 or so that ever answer any questions for the most part, and we get crapped on regularly all the while as we provide free answers to people that are generally clueless. admit it rob, what would you say the demographic is for offroad newbs? i'd venture to say it's mostly h/s kids who don't know much yet combined with a huge dose of mouth breathers and flatbillers that just want their "truck to be big with giant tires" and it's just not that simple if they want an honest answer. would you rather we start tossing out ridiculous generic replies like "go ahead and get a 9'' f150 lift and add a body lift, it'll clear 44's, and don't worry about pushing that much tire with stock gears on half ton axles, you'll be the king of your h/s's parking lot" or would you rather we answer truthfully to the best of our knowledge from personal experience?
/rant.
Having a newb sub-forum would cause even less traffic in the regular offroad forum.
the idea would be that it would ease them into tech and the offroad forum without flames if they actually planned to stick around as opposed to the 5 posts and i'm out crowd. i can see it working to draw in the more timid posters from the other sections, who would eventually get to know us and get more relaxed instead of taking simple jokes straight to heart like we hate them when we were just playing around to keep the lolz up. think of it as trickle down forum-enomics
p.s. i already told tater i was going to send joe to nwu
