My 97 F250HD has a 351w motor. One of my freeze plugs is seeping pretty bad. I have never replaced one before, but I hear it is not very hard at all. My problem is, my long tube header is exactly in the way of being able to replace it. My truck has almost 200,000 miles and I really don't feel like taking long tube header off. Truck won't last much longer. So my question is, I have been to about the rubber freeze plug, with washers, nut and bolt. Are they any good, do they hold up??
we use them at work for plugging exhaust emissions from stacks. They work ok but will fail sooner than the 351w will.
I'd check your cylinder compression and oil pressure... That will tell you the overall health of your engine. I had a buddy run his 95 351w up to 325,000 with good maintence and keeping up with what needed fixing. how are the headers put on? bolts or studs? Most guys who put headers on usually use stud kits in order for easy removal later along with copper antiseeze. if this is the case removing that header shouldn't be that much of a problem... PB blaster!!!!
