Hey all,
Looking into a new ecoboost. I currently have a 07 ram1500 and i love it/hate it. Love the styling, size, and over all big rig feel. Hate the parts i have to continually have to replace. Have to admit the fords have me turning my head a bit but i have a few questions. Does ANYONE wheel these things? I really enjoy camping and the outdoors stuff so i plan i hitting a few trails. I have heard a ton of talk about towing but seems like theres noone willing to hit the trail and get there baby dirty. Im looking into the FX4 w/ the ecoboost so any positive/negative feedback would be great. Thanks in advance,
Dave
BTW, heres a pic of my current truck:
The trucks are capable for sure. You just have to have the patience, and sometimes the $$$ to get them setup right.
Although you cannot get it with an EcoBoost, have you looked into the 6.2L Raptor SuperCrew?
Just a thought
A FX4 with the E locker would put you leaps and bouds ahead offroad over any truck with an Open or LS rear end.
Im assuming your truck has a LS. So buy an FX4 with the ELock, put the same size tires that are on your dodge on it, and you will be able to go more places easier.
Lockers are one of the best upgrades (should be one of the first to) when you really want to get off the beaten path.
thanks for the link, thats a pretty good looking truck. I love the raptor (and i also love the powerwagon, super capable) but both are out of my price range to be honest. Im really looking for something new because i want/need a warranty. I may abuse my trucks but i also take really good care of them (maintenance and good coat of wax to prevent rust) and for once i would like to be a first owner of a vehicle.

Good luck
The Dodge Power Wagon comes with an available front and rear E-locker. It's a beast for sure.
I certainly get my baby dirty. I then promptly wash her off.
My truck has the offroad package, which consists of a little more aggressive tires, skid plates and the 3.73 E-Locker rear end. It's basically a step below the FX4. I am very impressed with the performance of my truck offroad. It launches up hills my Explorer used to struggle with.
If you're a serious mudder, and have a little extra cash, I would seriously investigate the SVT Raptor. I test drove one and it was amazing. I still kick myself sometimes for not buying it.

The raptor is sweet and i wouldn't have to dump my money into moddling her right away so thats a plus. But to be honest im not loaded haha. Im 24 fresh out of college trying to start up a career.

It's good that you're cognizant of your priorities. At the end of the day, a truck is a truck. The Raptor much like the Power Wagon has a high entry fee that is rarely negotiable. Ford offers no incentives to buy this truck and dealers have folks standing in line for the next one that rolls in.
Personally I feel that an FX4 or any F-150 with the off road package is a wise choice for the consummate off roader.
Took delivery of my ECO yesterday and love it. Traded in my 08 f 250 diesel xl supercab. Wrestled a bit with going to a "V6" but holy crap this new engine is a firecracker!!!! Im impressed. it had everything i wanted in a truck.
