Talking Got 'er fixed

After a nice long day of hauling shingles around town... in a beautiful v10 f250 , i got to working on my truck

now, to keep my phone from becoming destroyed, i didn't get too many pics after I got the hoses, off, but believe me. tomorrow you will get to see what came out of my cooling system.

The problem hose. Tore at the block, emptied my entire cooling system. Sweet.

Once I got the hose off, I was met by years and years, of crap. i mean crap. it smelled horrid. I never want to experience it again.

off with the hose, and out with the crap. spent a good 2 hours flushing that stupid block heater. more and more gunk kept coming out, so yeah. thats clean.
http://s55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t=IMG_2125.jpg

picture didn't turn out as good as I was hoping. but after flushing the heater, i moved to draining the entire system. didn't take anywhere near as long, which was sweet.

ok, so in the process of cleaning out the old thing, i managed to snap some cables.....
not to worry, I have a new extension cord that will get this all nice and fixed.

All done.

look at that tear.... holy crap.

no wonder i lost all my coolant...

Did your check the rest of your hoses? I wouldn't want to wish a repeat performance on you on the way to the mall. Hoses are cheap compared to an overheated engine.

I swear that looks like a marinated chicken piece, ready to be grilled.

i will later this week, maybe even tomorrow.
i had to get an advance from my boss today, it was enough to cover the cost of coolant, new hose, and new clamps.
depends on how much cash I can earn tomorrow.
and how busy we are.
i know i won't get anything done on sunday.
Airshow! Yay blue angels!!!

This is cajun redneck cooking.

It will cook an 8 lb whole chicken or two whole turkey breasts in 3 hours, cooked on charcoal. My neighbors always flip out that the smell is coming from the can, and can not believe how great the flavor is.

duuuude
that must cook one hell of a chicken!
I love Cajun food, couldn't get enough of it when I was in New Orleans.
I was there a week before katrina, (was there as N.O was missed by a hurricane, and arrived as one had just finished causing some wetness) needless to say, I havent been back since. I miss new Orleans, and Louisiana as a whole, great place.

I build them out of fireplace parts and use all stainless parts to assemble. It is really cool. My dads friend does trail rides and uses a ketchup can to cook a 4 pound chicken in.After a few burns the bottom of the can rusts and burns out.I figured I could build a better, longer lasting can cooker. That is what I came up with. The best thing is you start cooking and walk away. You can not overcook the food. I use cajun injectors to marinate the meat and it tastes wonderful.
The turkey breasts are more pleasing to the eye than a whole chicken as far as presentation.
Every time I build one I find subtle improvements to make it better. I think I have made about 8.
This is going to be my big can cooker.

These are others I have made.

The V10s rock, how did you like it?
I beat the **** out of mine, it just gos and gos.

Your arm does look like chicken.....
That hose was way to old, when you have the cash you need to do all the belts and hoses. I had one do that, thought it was a head gasket.
Now i change then every few years.

My first job as a real live PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC was at an International Harvester/ Checker (!) Dealership.

I had just gotten out of the Army ... and didn't have a car yet ... so I had to take something that I could walk to.

My First Assignment???

A broken right rear leaf spring on an International GARBAGE TRUCK!!! A FULL Garbage Truck.

In JULY ... out in the freakin' BLUE STONE PARKING LOT!!!

The nasty thing JUICED and DRIPPED on me the whole time I was under it.

I should have run screaming like a little girl.

I stuck it out ... and did over 25 years spinnin' wrenches.

screw that.
i did go there, he quoted me a nice low price, and then insisted on fixing everything else that was wrong with it.

so, i stole the truck back from him, told him to go f. himself, and went home, replaced all the hoses , and tomorrow, I will take it to Jiffy Lube and have them do it.
at least they don't have the tools to fix anything else.

update on an update.

this saved me a bit of hose, i decided to just block it off for now, and get it running before winter time again.

this is my afro-engineering, i don't remember what happened, but I got it too short, so i used a copper tube, and clamps, and did a splice, works great, no leaks yet. i'll replace the older clamps with some new ones next week.

ALL NEW!
6 feet of Goodyear heater hose from Autozone, came in at $6, and my system is as good as new.

all I have to do is get the air bubbles out of the system.

Getting air out of a system is easy. The way I do it is I leave the thermostat hose to radiator off so you can see the Tstat. just fill up the radiator and watch for when coolant starts coming out of the tstat. Most tstats now days usually have a bleeder in them so air can get out. If yours don't then carefully press on the tstat's plug to move it open for the air to escape. That only would work if you have access to the tstat from the radiator hose bib.
Another approach is leave the heater hoses disconnected(up almost as high as the rad fill level) and fill up the radiator while watching for coolant comeing from the heater hoses.

Most times you will get most of the air out but there will be some stuck inside the block/heads ect. Then best to hook back all hoses and have some one start the engine and you pour coolant in the radiator, rev then engine up to 1200 rpm and keep filling. DON'T slow the engine down till you have the cap back on! After cap back on, rev the engine up to 2000 rpm a few times the turn it off and check coolant level. If the level is close, then start the engine WITHOUT the radiator cap on and let it idle till hot while watching coolant level and filling as needed.
Once the tstat opens up, probly all air will leave the block/heads and the coolant level will drop. Just make sure you don't over heat your engine while doing this!
