Wondering what brand of battery you guys like? My truck has still been working fine with the original ones all this time. Still seem ok but i dont want it to catch up to me on a hunting trip! And i guess that if you get a bad new one, you have to consider who is better about honoring the warrenty? Thanks Joe
Due to my living and hanging out in rural areas, I went with Walmart batteries...I can get easier warranty service (if needed) in more rural locations with Walmart.
I've heard good things about the Costco batts. They are, or were, manufactured by Johnson Controls.
I won't be buying anymore Autozone Duralast batts. Got 2 new Gold ones in Nov '09 and just had to replace one last week. Sure it was free (no charge within the first 3 years) but after letting my truck sit for three weeks I had a no start. The bad batt drained the good one. Autozone would not replace them both because only one tested bad.
Thoroughly clean the cable connectors and batt terminals and liberally coat them with some anti-oxidant compound like Noalox.
Stay away from the Motorcraft 850ccas, My local Auto Electric guy told me they have had alot of trouble with them because there are too many plates inside the case size for it to work properly, I bought the Motorcraft 750ccas like were in my truck from the factory.
This all said, I understand that Johnson Controls makes batteries for alot of distributors Motorcraft being one, and WalMart being anouther, I think WalMart is a reasonable safe-bet because of their warranties and locations.....
I have (Sears) Die Hard Gold (880CCA) and love them so far, the truck starts in 1/2 the time it was before! Excelent warranty on them, too, and Sears are everywhere!

Uhhh, no Sears aren't everywhere. They are rapidly going the way of the dodo bird and are nearly non-existent in the rural west. There are more Walmarts in Nevada (40) than there are Sears in the entire southwest! Not saying a bad word about their batteries...first rate, but west of the Mississippi they are almost gone.

Robin, I would have dead shorted the good one until it was cooked...then return both batteries as bad. Some would say immoral, but I say that is what they should do as a warranty on a dual battery system. It really is stupid that retailers don't recognize that you cannot hook a good battery to a bad battery and expect that to heal the problem long term.
Thanks for the thoughts and advice on the battery issue. And i had forgot about Walmart batteries. Have had good luck with the ones in my old Whaler. I thought about going with the Motorcraft, but heard a rumor that the new ones are not the same quality as the ones that came in the truck? Joe
I'm running Interstates and couldn't be happier. I ran Yellow top Optima's for years in all my trucks and these Interstate's are far superior IMO. Buddy of mine is running Motorcraft's in his PSD and has had no complaints.
Kirkland brand 850CCA Costco batteries here. A couple years ago I got them for around $70 each. Costco has such a high turnover rate on their goods, you can almost be assured of getting pretty recently manufactured product. When I went to purchase my pair of batteries I noticed the date of manufacture stickers were less than 2 months old. Not sure how it is at other stores, but I think that's pretty darned fresh.
