About to pull the trigger on the TS single position chip. Thought I would through it out there for comment first though. My truck 1997 F250 4 wd HD 7.3 has the 6637 air cleaner mod and I have removed the cat, other than that it is stock. I have a 1900 lb cab over camper and a 4000 lb boat that i tow. I am looking for a little more power and economy a long with transmission help. This TS chip is available for $199.99 is it worth it or should I be looking at something else. All advise is welcome .
Don't go with stock (canned) TS tunes, it's harder on your tranny and won't always work as well. A good programmer like PHP, DP, Tony Wildman, Beans, etc will have custom written tuns specific to your PCM HEX code and your modifications.
Bump for more info. I am planning exact mods you have listed for truck I just purchased and my needs are the same, only towing 5500lbs 29' travel trailer. Also, I know guages are a MUST to monitor temps, so that's a given.
Timmosazz64 - Was there a noticable difference in the mods you have done? How did it affect your fuel economy? Thanks.
I noticed less restricted power with the air cleaner mod, a little more jump out of the motor. Totally worth doing and you get to hear the turbo wine. The removal of the cat louder but I catch myself going faster than I think in shorter distance. Between the two I get 18.5 mpg pretty regular running empty. No chip yet. I am going to go with the DP Just havent done it yet.
I just went to the TS web site. It looked like it is being closed out. I changed my mind after talking to a friend who had the TS and sent it back and went with the DP. He was telling me it is important to have the stock setting to go back to. He told me in the higher hp settings he would have to remove the ship to start the truck in cold weather. Also the DP is programmed for your truck with all of the mods considered.

I have no problem starting my chip in cold weather with the chip on. I DON'T because I want it to warm up first.... but I occasionally forgot and it started fine.
Custom tunes are the way to go, stock TS tunes are OK, but can cause problems. A custom tuner like PHP, Tony Wildman, Beans, or DP can adjust the tunes for YOUR truck, (Specific to your PCM as there are many different ones for different years) and specific to YOUR Mods, as well as tweak them in the future if you change anything. They also adjust the line pressures and shift points in the tranny so it won't eat it up as bad as canned tunes might.
