I have a 1999 Ford F150 4x4. When I start to accelerate, I am getting a vibration that only lasts for a second or two. It feels like it is comming from the left rear, but not sure. This happens more often when I am turning slightly, but occasionally does it when driving straight. I do have some side to side play in both rear wheels. Possibly excessive. Any ideas? Thanks,

IF you have a limit slip rear axle that can happen. The tires need to turn differents speeds when you turn a corner. Normallly when turning from a stand still, you will get a "grabby brake" type shudder or vibration for a few feet.. THE clutch is not letting go. You caan get a tube of "friction modifier" at Auto Zone for about $8. and put it in with the gear lube and might help... Is it time for a lube change ?
Thank you for responding.
I had the rear end checked and fluid added about a month ago. It seemed to help a little but the problem still exists. It does feel like the clutch grabbing though. Tried adding a little friction modifier, but maybe I need to add more. Not sure at this point.
You have not indicated you had checked any possibilities out yet.
How about checking the Universal joints on the driveshaft first.
Limited slip won't cause a vibration driving straight ahead.
Caution on adding friction modifier to clear an issue.
Know what it does before you do.
Adding more further negates the limited slip function and defeats it as a performance help in traction situations.
If the ring gear/pinion has chiped teeth you may feel 'feed back' as well.
Spring mounts should be checked.
Good luck.
