Have poured over the archives and not found an answer so, specifically where can I mount the bulb of a mech temp gauge in a 360? T stat housing has a vacuum tree on it, dont see a plug on the water pump and I want to leave the stock unit in the manifold, any ideas?
Can't really add a T for a temp reading as it tends to skew the numbers. You can T for a pressure reading. The best spot is to put it in the water neck. But it sounds like you are going to keep the vacuum switch. So you only other option is a upper radiator hose adpater looks like this https://01f6bbb.netsolstores.com/ima...setadaptor.jpg can be found at lots of places. You need good constant flow over the probe so keep that in mind.
The trouble with the upper radiator hose is that it will be after the thermostat and usually cycle a lot due to the temp changes depending on whether the thermostat is open or closed. If you position the "T" properly both gauges will read right especially if you bleed the air out.
Also, having the temp probe in the upper hose won't alert you about a T-stat that sticks closed....
Relocating the stock sender to the upper hose with that kind of item also doesn't work well, since the stock sender needs a good ground in order to function.
This leaves few options for having both in place and working correctly. One such option, is drilling another hole......
Thanks for the replys guys, at least now I dont feel like a total moron for not finding a good spot to tap into lol, I was thinking to myself that I must be one not to be able to find a location. I guess for the time being Im going to keep the vacuum switch as I really dont know beyond a vague idea what it does. For the time being I guess I will just locate it in the stock location on the intake as I am doubting the accuracy of the factory guage anyhow.
