Transmission Temp Probe

I am going to install a trans. temp gauge and want to know the best place to put the sending unit for accurate temp. readings. Any ideas?

I just had a transmission shop install one in my E40D and they put it on the left side of the oil pan. I thought they would put it on one of the lines, [easier], but they said it would give a truer temp from the pan. I don't know if that's true or not but that's what I have.

If it is a 4r100, there is a test port on drivers side of the tranny, it is right around the shift linkage, most guy's have it there, because it is so easy.

I agree, use the test port, as I've had mine there for several years now, and it works just fine!

The test port is what I use too. Just don't wrap too much teflon tape high up on the threads of the sending unit. You want to get a good ground on it.

Also as a heads up, if you are installing an Autometer unit, do a search, as there was a post about the sending units being too long and breaking off internally in the transmission.
