Not bad when you figure all the towing that is done. Most auto tans don't last that long in any vehicle. I know a guy that had his trans go out and it put him over the top financially and he ended up on the street.............that's scary.
its a 9000 lb vehicle... its gonna have transmissions go out. lotta strain on a transmission. especially when you consider its the type of vehicle people commute in and maybe don't keep up on maintenance.

I don't want to get into a battle or anything here. Just want to say that a transmission should last the life of any vehicle. 9000# shouldn't do it either, heavy F550 and up trucks don't have a problem. One company comes and picks up product ever week from us, their fleet of internationals all have autos, some with over 400K miles and no transmission problems.
The 5r100 apparently is holding up just fine.
The 4R100 was just a problem trans.
Glad the rear side window problem isn't as common!

I rebuilt trannys for 10 years and trust me; they don't last extremely long in any vehicle. The 4R100 has no major typical type problems like most trannys do except for maybe spitting out oil from the front pump/converter seal when it gets way too hot. Actually it's a good transmission.
I never rebuilt an auto transmission in my life but I never remember having or hearing about as many auto trannys burning up before 200K as I do with the 4r100 (not including dodge or chevy, we've always had fords).
I've known lots of guys with diesel trucks, and I can tell you, the dodge and chevy guys all think their auto transmissions are failure prone, too. Ask any auto 12v cummins guy what he has the most money in and most will tell you the transmission. And the chevy guys, those allisons are great performing transmissions but prone to breaking esp at the 100k-150k range, and very expensive to fix.
BUUUTT I feel like we are getting sidetracking with the transmission thing. I'm getting ready to add a couple subs to my truck.. I'm kinda hoping they don't vibrate the rear window off if I get happy with the volume ****.
200k is an awful lots of miles for any auto trans, oh yea the window; I notice mine was't shut all the way on the driver side and this would contribute to them falling out due to lack of support.
