When did your trans go out? How many miles? What do you use the truck for?

This is something I am just curious about and would like to see if there is a pattern to it at all.

It is hard to make up perfect poll questions to separate everyone. So in addition to voting please also post what your truck/excursion is mostly used for, the year of the truck, at what mileage the trans went out, and has the fluid ever been flushed or changed.

Also for you guys that haven't had a trans go out, same questions. What year is the truck, mileage, majority of the trucks use, and has fluid been changed flushed?

Like for my 03 7.3 X I would say I have 169K miles on original trans. Truck spent majority of its time on the highway pulling a TT. Fluid has never been flushed till 169K miles.

Thanks!

Mine went out shortly after 180k. Used as a DD, heavy towing (sometimes 20k+ lbs) down the highway and in the field. About 100k of those miles it was chipped.

I don't know which one to check. My trans didn't go out, but I went to BTS and had Brian build my trans before it went out. Call me stupid?

My transmission went out shortly after purchasing the truck in 2003. I purchased the truck with approximately 51000 miles and by 58000 miles the transmission was toast. I thoroughly believe the previous owner dogged this truck and traded it in after a fluid change. I had Ford and the dealership agree to split the cost with me and it only cost me approximately 850 to replace the transmission. I now have over 130000 on a remanned transmission with no problems. Just normal fluid and filter changes.

Rick that's not stupid, that's taking care of business. Prevention instead of cure.

My '03 tranny went out around 80k after doing mostly daily driving, (before I bought it at 60k). Since then it is used for chasing parts, heavy hauling and trailer towing. May sit a week or two at a time. Just turned over 100k.

Ok here's the deal. Purchased the EX w/ 133,000 on it. Assume it is the original Transmission. OASIS report says nothing about a Trans change.

Did full Flush, Oil change and added the 6.0 Cooler at 139,000 miles. Trans runs good but only have 1000 miles on the new oil. Used as DD and 25% towing teh Airstream.

I'm sure it's good to 200,000 +. (knock on wood!)

Seems you are doing good. The OASIS will not have anything on it about the trans if the PO had the trans rebuilt some place outher then the dealer.

Mine went out at 191k. Not sure what the previous owner used it for. I use mine as a DD. Now with 3k after the trans its runnin like a champ. The only thing I've hauled was bed full of goat and horse manure. Trans gave it up about 2 weeks after the bed load.

Same here on my current truck. My old '99 it went out with 55K on the clock as a daily driver, towing only occasionally.

'01 original trans, all stock except for 295/75 tires, daily driver only pulls around 7k maybe once a month, good maintenance record, trans took dump at about 190k. Couldn't wait the month it would take to get a BTS, so let a local guy rebuild it. So far so good.

I assume you're referring to the 4R100 and don't want to hear how my ZF-6 is still running strong with 339,000 miles
