Question Y block Bellhousing question

Hey all, how can i tell a truck 3spd from a 4spd bellhousing? part numbers to look for or a measurment i can take?

looking to do the T5 conversion

Do you have the narrow "square" bell to trans pattern? Isn't that the same for 3 and 4 speeds of that same era? Are you sure there is a difference between the 3 and 4 speed bells?

from what i have read on ford-y-block there is a difference between the 3 and 4 spd truck bells

These dudes say you have to use the 3 speed bell, the 4 won't work. Don't know why.

It appears this link will answer at least part of your original question as it's a pic of a 3 speed bell. Who knew?

They are mod'ing a y bell, vs. using an adaptor.

Input shaft length is an issue as well as the bolt pattern.

FWIW, Modern Driveline gave me a quick answer via email on a question. Looks like the guy above welcomes phone calls.

I'd call him...good luck with it.

yep, thats John's site, i should call and see if i can buy a core already done up rather than hunting one down and shipping mine to him. i would probably be money ahead.
