Okay, is there a way to tell a 3 speed truck bellhousing from a 4 spd truck bellhousing? (Y block 292) are there part numbers i could look for? any measurements i can take?
The 3 speed has small mounting flange with 4 7/16 -14 threaded holes. The 4/5 speed has large mounting flange with 5 9/16-12 threaded holes with 3 on starter mount side.
You won't find any part numbers on parts after 1956, only casting or ID engineering numbers.
Since casting numbers are foundry marks, they cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.
One 292 bellhousing was only used for a 3 speed (B8C-7505-A), but...another (B8Y-7505-A) was used for a 3 speed (F/P350 w/a T-87), F100/600's with a T-98 4 speed, F500/600 w/a 5 speed (also used in C/N/P Series').
These are part numbers, but won't be listed on the housing. If you do find marked numbers, I might be able to cross them over, might not.
