If the ID plate says the GVW is 7000# or above, it should have a Dana 60. If it is below 7000#, it should have a Dana 44.
The Dana 60 will have a 13 bolt cover, whereas the 44 will have 10 bolts. (I am not sure if this applies to all model years, but maybe this will give you an idea.....)
Oh yeah, welcome to the FTE board!

I've never seen a f-250 with a 60 front stock. I know they came in f-350's though. It says on the front of the housing up beside the cover on the webbing will be stamped "44" or "60". At least the ones I've seen do.
I've got a 79 f250 that came with dual 60's. I think they called them snofighters. I 've been trying to get more info on this. I ran the axle codes on mine and it did relate to a 60 up front. If any one has info on snofighters Please let me know. Thanks
Thanks to all who respnded to my last post. Turns out I do have a Dana 44 in the front of my 77 F-250. Would anyone be able to decipher my vin #? It is F265CZ12051 Drivetrain F0219?T0671. Thanks!
I had a 78 F250 that came with stock 60's in the front. Anyhow the easiest that i have found is that the Dana 44 Uses balljoints. While the 60 uses a kingpin on top and a roller bearing on bottom
Am I bad! I had my vin I.D. wrong. I have found the vin reader and identified almost everything except the axle code. The code is 24J which comes out with a 4.10 Dana 60 rear and says the front is P.S.? What the heck is that?
In the vin decoder I typed in J as the front diff I.D. and 24 as the rear I.D. It spat out P.S. under the front diif i.d. and nothing else. The rear reads O.K. and so did everything else though.
Mil1ion, shouldn't the front and rear BE the same, not just close to the same? Or is there enough slack in the driveline it doesn't matter if one is a little different than the other?
Just curious.
4.10's in the front and 4.11's in the rear will not make any differance. My highboy has 4.09's in the front and 4.10's in the rear. Ford did this to compensate for the fulltime transfer case
