On my 2004 4x4 v10 X I noticed the front gawr is 4300 and the rear gawr 5250. Add those together and you get 9550... BUT the gvwr is 8900? (this info is from the vin sticker in door jamb)
That is true...however almost all mfg's play that game.
What would be the odds of someone balancing their load to precisely get each axle at GAWR?
When towing, most of the load will be carried by the rear axle due to the placement of the tongue weight near the rear axle.
Simply adding up the GAWR's is not a valid way to figure GVWR.
Also the GVWR is what the mfg rates the vehicle more for braking than hauling and it appears they give you some flexibility for loading to GVW without exceeding both axles.
