Hey guys.94 f150 5.0 4X4 E40D. I was having hard shift problem, swapped psom and that took care of it. I think something still isn't quite right. Shifts smooth now but, seems to shift out of first way early and I really have to get into the pedal to get it back to first, also seems to stay in third alittle too long sometimes. feels good otherwise. Did some reading about tps adjustment and mlps just wanted to run it by you guys. The previous owner did replace the tps right before I bought it. Thanks for any input.
The truck I pulled it off of had the same size tires but I guess its always a possibility that someone changed it along the way. I should probably start there. If I do a search will I find out how to program it? Thanks for the input sub.
Ok, just took truck to the store and I'm pretty sure I need a rebuild, slipping bad!!! Still moves ok in first and reverse but that's about it. Fluid level is good and doesn't smell or look burnt. Didn't feel like it was slipping before today, had it out on the highway last night all seemed fine. Then today it started. Grrrrrrrr! That's $1700 I don't have. I hate autos, this is the first one I ever had.all my other trucks were standards.
That would be cool if its cheaper than that, since its a holiday I guess I won't be able to do anything about it till tomorrow. Any tips on what I should look for in a rebuild, upgrades,ect...
I think you need to go and take a look at the TPS and make sure the voltages are are about right in that one he put on.
Also check the wiring to the TPS as this will cause the transmission to slip and change gears at the wrong speeds.
I did a search on how to test tps but I'm alittle confused some thing I found said ground meter to battery some said to the Sig return wire and do I probe the wires coming off the tps its self or the truck side of the harness.
I just checked voltage to the tps and I got 1.0 at closed and 4.4 wot. With a smooth increase closed to open. But while doing that I found out my fan clutch is frozen. It's only about 4 weeks old. I did notice that while I was driving it sounded like it was engaged. How much power would that being froze up take from that 302? Enough that with the noise and loss of some power I could mistake it for slippage? I didn't drive it far earlier so its hard to tell now. I'm thinkin I should start there and see, needs fixed either way.
Just updating, I hate when people don't let us know what happens. Changed the fan clutch and all is good. Kinda feel like an idly thinking trans was slipping but it was very deciveing especially on a short ride while I was being easy on it. Since I was having that hard shift problem my mind just immediately went to trans problem.oh well, not the first time in my life I looked stupid, sure it won't be the last.
