I searched the forums and couldn't get quite the answer I'm looking for. I was wondering if any helper springs add to ride height? I saw that the supersprings don't do anything much to the suspension until they come under load, and there is a slapping issue on some trucks. So I'm looking at the hellwigs EZ-load and wondering if they provide any lift when installed. I recently leveled my truck with a 2" kit from daystar. It sits perfectly level, but I do haul items occasionally. So I need some rake back into it. I don't want to go the AAS route as it seems to make the rides a bit rougher according to other posters and forums, and average lift seems to be 2". I don't want to do air bag type suspensions since I do articulate the axle on my truck when taking a few dirt trails.
So I'm thinking of either getting some 3" blocks (which seems to add 1.75" on my truck, I only want 1" of lift) or possibly maybe the hellwig helper springs if they do just add that "Hint" of lift. Anybody with experience with their product?
They will add height, depending on how much you tighten the U-bolts that are on the ends of the springs. You can adjust them to add 0-2" of height. I used the Hellwig helper springs on my '88 and they work pretty well.
I put a set of SuperSprings on my truck, I have noticed a night and day difference in the sag and eliminated the sway problem the truck had, not the trailer. I don't have any noise issues, they added about 1" height but do tend to be a little bouncy when the truck isn't loaded
Supersprings added somewhere between 3/4 to 1" of rear height empty for me. I'm the one that has a noise when going over speedbumps with them, but I'm beginning to believe it is my springs not the superspring - going to look into it this weekend. Cornering has improved, didn't notice any difference in ride - I added a level kit and bigger tires roughly the same time. Eliminated all my sag when pulling the boat.
In all honesty, it seems like air bags would be perfect for your given application.

...is the first I've ever heard of not being able to articulate with air bags. They still do give and flex, albeit slightly less than if you were without them, but they should not limit suspension travel greatly.

Thanks for your reply. In what I've been reading is that if you flex your rear axle quite a bit (something I do every so often on washed out/sunken grades), I hear you can tear the bags. I've been in situations where I've put a tire in the air on the front and had quite a good articulation in the rear. I'd hate to invest in an airbag setup and tear it up. The web makes it seem like you can't get too much articulation out of them, is there truth in that?

Installation was very easy, simple bolt on application. Approx 1 hr for complete install, now that I know what I am doing 30 min. Directions say max adjustment is when spring ends get within 1/4 inch of truck springs. Mine are at approx 3/4 to 1 inch and I have about a 1/2 inch of lift. Test drive, truck feels much sturdier yet does not ride rough at all. Also I noticed that it now feels like you are putting much more power to the ground, tires bite (hook up) now instead of breaking loose or hoping! So far very happy with the product, I will hook the 30 ft TT to it this weekend and give them a real test. Of course I will get loaded pics as well then.
Those Hellwigs are starting to sound better and better . I was really concerned about rough riding as well. I only want to add a tiny bit of rake back into my truck. I can't wait to see the trailer pics. I have no toys yet, as I see this truck as my gateway drug . But I do put it to work hauling rock, bark, furniture, etc... for myself and my friends.
Pricey, but intriguing setup. I've never heard of these. Our spring packs are pretty flat as they are already though, but I'm sure their kit takes this into account already. I'm wondering if it can un-clip if you articulate your rear axle to where one side is very slouch/laxed (lots of arch), this case I'm thinking of is one wheel high and one wheel low. I don't think I've ever been in that bad of a situation though, and doubt I'd ever be (Knock on wood). I definitely need to look into this even more.
