tech question about tranny fluid type

Hi guys,
I just bought a 1996 F150 as a work /winter truck . It has the 300 six with a 5sp tranny and transfercase . What type of fluid / oil should I be using in it ? My owners manual tells me how much but not which type . I was told that the tranny was swapped out and a mazda put in but the NUMBERS on the tranny tell me that it might not be the case . ( although a garage slip shows a tranny swap )? The numbers are E4 and some other numbers after that . If I remember correctly the E should be 1980's ? I will be doing a tranny /transfer case service along with checking the front and rear diffs . So any info would helpful ... Thanks

For any 5 speed you should use automatic transmission fluid and the same for the transfer case. I know it doesn`t right but there it is.
