On a somewhat different note - was wondering if you guys had any opinion on names. Can't quite tell if she's going to be a little redhead... or a strawberry blonde... but we're down to Jessica, Jennifer or Taylor. (I'm leaning towards the latter... but wouldn't mind some helpful input.) Anyone know how to create a poll?

(I'll post a pic the first time she's strapped into her car seat... or when I get the digital camera unloaded... whichever comes first.)
I like the name Taylor, but with singers such as Taylor Dane, and Taylor Swift, well the name has become a bit over used lately.. in other words there are a lot of Taylors in the schools right now! Ultimately it is your choice, , but I thought I might give you a bit of food for thought!

Since you're asking for opinions, here's mine.

Those names aren't "classic", they're just over-used.

All things run in cycles. My great-grandmother, probably born somewhere around 1875, was named Emma.

My grand-daughter, born seven years ago, is named Emma. I had ABSOLUTELY no influence whatsoever in choosing her name. Pure coincidence.

Oh, and the cycle had come around........

My advice is to give her some indivuality, and pick something less "classic" (read less common), not what Good Housekeeping says today's "hip" names are.

I guess I meant they are more classic as opposed to the "Dakota, Scout, Hayley, Brittney" names that seem to be flying around the schools nowadays.

And I couldn't agree more with you pop, my kids names are Andrew, Robert and Kathleen.

My advice is to just pick what you like. Some time during her life she will love it, then hate it, then just accept it. You cannot predict what stigma may be attached to a name somewhere in the future, or what popular opinion may be.

Unpredictably bad luck would be being born in the '20's and named Adolph, or in the 90's and named Barack.

Amen, Marc! Hard to beat Bill's keen sense of humor!

And now from the This-Just-In department:

Not only am I getting old, but the tele-marketing world must know it. I just got a sales call from that "step-through-a-door-safety" bathtub company.

She sounded about thirty-five years old, and after a brief introductory description of the product and the message "As seen on Channel Seven", her first, obligatory question was "How are you today?" Sometimes I tell them with great detail (including whether I'm "regular" or not), but I didn't this time, and just said "Fine".

Immediately following was, "Tell me, do you have any aches or pains?"

I grunted "Huh?", then uttered nary another word, and simply hung up.

Should I consider this to have been too rude, or do you think she hears that a lot and considers it a normal response from us ol' farts?

And are they known as Andy, Bob, and Kathy?

Pretty hard to go wrong with them-there! Those are good 'ol American names!

Do people actually name their kids "Scout" nowadays?

No it was not rude. Do not feel bad. Cold calls should be outlawed.
But then that would be another law on the books that we don't need.
Whatever, don't feel bad.

Yea, sometimes I want to just ask, "Do we have a previously-established business relationship?" and wait for their response?

I fear that some folks are completely ignoring the national Do-Not-Call list, and some pee-pees need to be whacked, financially, by the powers-what-be.

Heck, maybe we could even solve this current over-spending mess!

My firstborn, a son, was born 3 months premature. Weighed 3-13. Of course we were not quite ready for this, and had not picked a name or even discussed it very much. After most of the night and half the day of labor, the nurses asked ME alone what the name would be. I took a few minutes to think about it, and picked a first and middle name, unilateraly as they say. I really didn't think to get some input from my wife. But when advised of the outcome she seemed to be pleased. I suppose she was just glad to have less to worry about.

The newborn was immediately tranported to Choc in Orange County, where he spent exactly 30 days before he could come home.

A name really didn't seem all that important at the time.

My head is bobbing up and down in agreement Pop.
Yesterday I had to self delete three times on this very subject. The present business climate. And associated messes.
