Any problems with mixing and burning used hydraulic fluid in our rigs ('95) I just changed the boom fluid in my bucket truck and have about 5 Gals. Hate to dump it with diesel over $4.00 a Gal.
I personally will only dump filtered WVO into my tank, because, well, that's bascially what a diesel is designed to burn.
But I know guys that dump in every and any kind of oil they can get their hands on, and have no issues burning it, with the right filtering.
Just make sure you have a good filter in there and I even pre-filter the wvo just to make sure.
Small amounts are a good idea.
But if it's warm where you are and you burn though it fairly quick, you can go to a 30% mixure (or more?) with no issues.
That's what I do anyway, I only burn in the summer.
But for me I really like the smell of burgers grilling when my truck is idling.
This is a real hot button topic with a lot of folks. You will have opinions varying from "Heck yeah, I burn axle grease in my truck" to "If you put anything other that regular diesel into your engine you will clog your injectors, burn holes into your pistons, carbon up your rings, ruin the ozone and usher in the arrival of the anti-Christ".
There are a lot of guys that burn some ATF, or WVO or even used motor oil (after being filtered) in their diesels. How much you run or whether you run any is up to you, but you're not going to find a nice tidy answer to this question. There are just too many differing opinions.
Now that I have said this, I will give you mine. I think filtering the oil or ATF is of utmost importance if you're going to run it in your fuel. In the summer I would not hesitate to run some in the tank with the diesel. If you've only got a couple gallons, run a gallon a tank or something and see how it works. You could always run some in one tank and straight diesel in the other one so if you have an issue you can switch tanks. That is my opinion on the matter. I am in the process of building a filtering setup to filter used hydraulic oil to try running some in my truck. If it works, great! If it doesn't, I will heat my shop with it instead, since I am also building a waste oil burner for my shop furnace (I scored about 550 gallons of it recently for free).

I'll burn anything but UMO or ATF.
If its clean its going in!
Used oil has to much a chance of having metal particles. Not risking it.

True, but that's why you must filter it with a 5 micron filter first.
Personally I avoid WMO and WTransO, but if filtered I bet it's just fine. If #2 goes over $5/gal, I know what I'll be filtering and burning. An $8 5 micron filter will do A LOT of oil...
Seriously, I know one guy in particular that has ran his truck on 100% WMO, WTransO, Hydraulic oil, Olive oil, mineral oil, etc and has over 400k miles on the truck. It's all in the filtering and temp you're running it at. I've learned a ton from him and his filtering techniques.
From what I gathered reading though. your pretty on with the 5 micron stuff.
There are always smaller things to destroy things though. But if your filter that small, those other things are not going to hurt much.
