I received an updated tune from Mike last week. Nice of him to send out updates to his customers without being requested. Anyways I loaded it up and I am liking it very much so far. As he told me it makes the shifting more refined. I am heading out of town on the weekend so I will able to get some more miles on it and get an even better feel for it. Thanks for the unbeatable service Mike.

Did you ever hear from your service guy on what kind of threat to your warranty you would be making by installing this tuner?

I didn't bring it up, we were getting into it a little bit the last time I had my truck in there so it wasn't the right time to bring it up.

I think I'm going to wait another year and get a 5 star tuner. I really want the throttle response and trans updates, any added hp is just a bonus IMO.

I just bought an F-150 with a 6.2 and have noticed the issues mentioned (sluggish at low speeds, some hesitation in acceleration, etc.). Will this get any better after the break-in period? I thought the computer was maybe in the learning phase. Would premium fuel help over regular? I'd rather not have to buy anything that would void the warranty on a new truck, but it might be tough to live with this for 5- yrs.

Premium will do 2 things for you, give you a marginal amount of hp that you probably won't notice, and lighten your wallet.

The limitations are with Ford's programming. It just blows...

I just ran into the trans issue again after a long soak at work. Huge hesitation in shifting out of first, then settled on 4th. This was going uphill so there was no letting off the throttle..

I read somewhere online that you should keep it in tow/haul mode and it will be a lot better, but I can't imagine it would be good for engine/tranny long term.

Tow/Haul mode will just keep it in a lower gear longer, thus giving you then sense of more power, keeping the RPM's up. And it won't shift into 6th gear either. This way when you need the power the truck will be higher in the RPM range and the response will be a little better, but you will burn more fuel not getting into overdrive. The best solution would be to drive in M mode and shift yourself.

I thought I read to put on tow/haul mode and take off traction control. Drove this morning just with traction control off (didn't mess with tow/haul mode) and it seemed to shift a lot smoother. Still getting used to the truck as I only had it a week. Kind of reminds me in a strange way of a Ninga 1000 motorcycle I had about 20-years ago. Sweet spot was 80mph and higher, but ran a little boggy at lower speeds.

I agree.

What are the warranty impacts?

When I bought my 7.3 I complained to the service manager at the dealership about what a dog it was. He helped me out with it and kept the warranty too. I think I'll ask him about this change. I'm thinking it would be a little different if you have to reflash the computer.

I got it to shift into 6th at about 70 the first time. Didn't seem like it wanted to go in at first. The next couple times in shifted into 6 at about 55-60. I don't understand why you would want to be in 6th gear at anything slower than 50mph. I think without tow mode, I've been in 6th great as low as 35-40mph. Didn't the engineers think this might not be the best set-up when they did the programming?

Towing my fifth wheel it goes into sixth anytime I am on a long flat stretch if I am not bucking a wind. It will hold it a light wind as well but if I am bucking much more than that it will run in 5th.

Different engine, but looks like it would cause warranty issues.

TSB 11-7-7
Some 2011 F-150 and 2011-2012 Mustang vehicles equipped with 5.0L engine may have unauthorized modifications to the powertrain hardware and/or calibration which may result in exceeding component design limits. Such modifications could cause damage to the powertrain and/or void the factory powertrain warranty.
