MY damn windshield washer light and dinger comes on when my windshield washer fluid drops to 3/4 full. I don't really think a "windshield washer fluid light" and "dinger" is necessary. I mean, with all my other vehicles, when it ran out, you just fill it up, not like a low fuel dummy light where you are screwed if you dont fill it or something. I guess the question is has this annoyed anyone else and does anyone have any ideas to fix it? I guess I could pull the wiring harness off but i didnt know if that would cause the light to stay on even more, or screw something else up. Sometimes its hard to understand why engineers do stuff when designing stuff, I mean was there some guy sitting around Ford saying, "Hmm, let's put a dumb washer fliud light up there so grandma can keep her fluid filled, better yet, lets make it light up when she has used only 1/4 of the fluid, so she can keep it really full or be annoyed by the light. . . .Give me a raise.")
(Sorry for the anger, this is a good place to vent)
Go ahead and vent, I just noticed the same thing on our '99. When I wrested it away from the wife the other day for a spin, on came the idiot light. Armed with a gallon jug of fluid, I popped open the reservoir lid and was staring at what looked like a nearly full reservoir. I added maybe 16 oz. at best before risking overflow. Think maybe that engineer had the blueprint turned upside down?
And the 2003 Expy has not improved! I had a Lexus IS for a while and the warning light was spot on; if it came on, fill up the washer or else.
The only way I can see around this is to disconnect the sensor wires and tape them together to make the circuit and fool the system into thinking there is fluid in the washer bottle.
