well once the level in the radiator goes down, which hopefully it happens sooner than later because I drove it around for a bit yesterday and it never went down, i'll fill it the rest with water
Straight water is not good either. Lower boiling point, and higher freezing point. Need at least close to a 50/50 mix.
Straight water is fine, except that it freezes, corrodes, and doesn't lube the water pump. It actually cools better than 50/50 blend. Many race cars run only water with pump lube added. And i always fill my engines with water on the first build to make sure nothing is leaking for 2 reasons. 1. If a gasket leaks and lets water into the oil all you have to worry about is draining the oil right away to flush it out. If coolant is in there its harder on the bearings. 2. It's cheaper, nothing sucks more than having to deal with catching all of your brand new antifreeze when your already mad because of the leak.
Yep, the antifreeze doesn't transfer heat as effectively as water, absorbing or disipating. Striaght water will run cooler, but lacks pump lube and causes rust inside the engine. Straight antifreeze won't cool as well as a 50/50 mix.
Many racing bodies prohibit antifreeze in the cooling system, since it is as slick as oil on a racetrack. This is where the alternative cooling system additives and coolant come into play. They allow for better cooling, prevent the rust/corrosion, and provide water pump lubrication, but without the messy clean up associated with antifreeze. They won't protect from freezing though, so using it in a street vehicle is not practical, in most areas of the country.
okay well like I said hopefully the fluid level lowered enough to put water in it. I had run it for about 5 minutes or so, turned it off 3 times in between there randomly and took off the cap on the radiator. When I did that, some air would come out, and I would here a big bubble of air towards like the bottom and towards the engine pop or something. But every time the fluid level was the same. I might go back over and mess around with it tomorrow, along with setting the timing where it should be.
