From a dead stop I hit the gas and after about a second the driveline "catches". Its not very hard but I can feel it every time. My tranny isn't shifting very hard either. Makes me think it's the torque converter going out. I have checked all u-joints and they are fine. Whats my next move? '01 f250 7.3 4x4
Just covering the basics, have you checked your fluid level? I had an old C-6 that did exactly what you're describing because it was loosing ATF. It would take a couple seconds to build up enough pressure and then it would catch. I could tell how low the fluid had gotten by how long it took to start moving. I knew it was getting replaced so I just kept refilling it and driving. FYI, it died just a month later with a horrible burning smell. I lost all forward movement and could only back up.
It is not difficult to drop the drive shaft at the rear diff. Just remember to mark the driveline so everything goes back together right. I have read the Ford blue grease is best and that is what I used. Dealer can get the small tube which will last years, no need for the larger can.
I think the book says to fill the boot with grease but I have done it twice without doing that.
