how's this idea sound

so lets just say the "dung" hits the fan... really bad

i wouldnt mind just packing up my truck, load my four wheeler in it, my german shepard, a few select rifles, heading out into the deepest part of the woods i can find, setting up camp and just live there. live off the land, build a tiny log home, wouldnt have to work for money cause i wouldnt be paying bills

im sure after a few hours id start to stink and miss watching the Outdoor channel, but man... doesnt this just sound like the life? forget taxes, i wouldnt even be making enough income to buy a case of beer! id have to find a substitute for that of course!

any of you reading this ever get the same idea and just wish nothing could hold you back? sounds like fishingtechnician sort of did so... i dont know if fishingtechnician was the right name but... anyways

Anything that gets me off of the east coast, and out of the bullseye. I live accross the river from a sub base, and now I work building subs just down the river. Oh, and there is a Navy listening station right nearby, and a nuke plant within 10 miles. Yep, I am ready for AZ.

While most may not think it is a target...Little Rock AFB is the worlds training center for C-130s, which is the aircraft used for intra theatre operations....soo..........who knows...I would at least like to own enough land in the middle of nowhere to go if **** hits the fan.

Well, I guess you could say that my lil brother is living that life already. He is a trapper in Texas. He lives 50 miles from the closest town with a doctor. He lives out of a 28 ft travel trailer, eats over a camp fire every nite- rain or shine, hot or cold. He has lyme disease, brittle bones, and is high risk for skin cancer as he is always outdoors. He has had to sew the dog up numerous times and then himself from the dog. When his pickup fails he generally has to walk back to a phone which might take 2-3 days so on the way he drinks tank water after he chases the cattle out of it but before the dog pisses in it. During the summer sometimes it cools off to 110 degrees by 10 pm. Yeah, man that's the good life!

Sounds feasible, but no woman? Little house on the praire or Jeremiah Jones the mountain man? If you can find 2 acres of good land, with water, and have any smarts you might pull it off. I don't think the stuff will hit the fan any time soon, so you might consider keeping your job and friends or go out and get a job and friends. It sucks being alone and isolated if you have no social interaction or small group of people to fall back on when times are tough.

One of the Root causes of:
Having a New truck($500/month), and
having an ATV($150/month),
travel trailer($500/month) ,
wife's new car($500/month).
New home even with a 5% mortgage say around $1500/month. Insurance on all the above without any kids...say $500/month or thereabouts.
So lets see...500+150+500+500+1500+500=$3,650.
and,
when you add another $600 for food and fuel...
now up to $4,250.
Assuming NO credit card debt. $4250x12=$51,000.

You're going to have too gross about 80k/year to afford just the "basics" above to get by!!!.....

When You have all these New toys your suffering from a fatal disease called "Keeping Up With The Jones' .

This in turn creates Stress in your life in that you start worrying about "Losing your JOB".
If you become un-employed then you lose all your toys and your credit rating and then you can't get more replacement Toys. When your under all this stress it engenders in you a desire to tell everybody too kiss your Paycheck and consequently the "Desire" to head for the woods and live like Davy Crockett with a nympho Squaw who knows one word of english ...that being....YES.

Ah ..To live back in the Good old days.....good whiskey and wild women who can't say No. No headaches , no Pms, No B/C pills , no condoms , no impediments whatsoever> Just don't get sick....fd

well whenever you do not make 80k a year, you get a new truck with a V6 (290 a month) w/ full coverage (another 290 a month) fo wife, instead a long distance relationship (400 a month) no ATV, and rent on the other side of the tracks (300 a month), plus 200 for food = 1480 a month x 12 = 17,700 a year...Uncle Sam does not pay well., Oh yeah cigs and alc...umm 2g a year? almost 20k year. No, Uncle Sam does not pay that well...I actually make 24k a year......well under the avg, even in arkansas.
And you wish that you still lived w/ your folks and did not have to pay for anything. oh well.....i get a 50 bucks a month pay raise in June...yay.
And people wonder why military members are so stressed. And the leadership wants to know why they cannot get 1st termers to stay in.
