I have a 1993 F-150 shortbox, 5.0L, 4x4 with an E4OD transmission that went out in it 4 days after I bought it from the Honda dealership I work at. They have agreed to pay for a used tranny so what I am curious of, will a newer "updated" E4OD bolt right up? I have done some reading and it seems that in 1995 Ford had pretty much fixed all the common problems with them. So I wanted to get a newer style that won't have a tendancy to break. Any ideas?

I believe if you get your transmission rebuilt they will/should put in all of the necessary updates along with the rebuild. Or if they don't, you can get them put in.
good luck,
Well the reason I am asking.....I would like to know before I remove it so hopefully i can remove and install it all in one day. While looking on the internet at some online tranny sites it seems that they are all the same throughout the years as far as adaptablitity. Just wanted to know if anyone had tried this before. I am sure someone had put a 1996 E4OD in a 1993 truck....

mechanically, shouldnt be a problem. only thing id look out for are some electrical gremlins, some of the programming may have changed over the years, but probably not so much that the truck cant make sense of it all.
