'91 E4OD transmission interchange

Hello all, I have a 1991 F150 4.9L and the transmission just went out on me. It is the E4OD with the overdrive button in the dash. I need to replace the tranny and was wondering what would fit in it with maybe some minor modifications. I work at a salvage yard and we have plenty of 95 and up E4OD's we do not have any from the years 91-92, which our computer says are the only ones that will fit. It will cost me about 1500.00 to either rebuild mine or get a replacement from somewhere else and it will be MUCH cheaper if I can make one of these newer trannies work. Please give me some advise. '91 E4OD transmission interchange

The connectors are shaped differently on the later ones, but the circuitry is the same. Check the back of the Haynes manual and compare the wiring diagrams.
