Can anyone recommend a cost effective but quality grill guard for my 03'? I have a 06 chrome grill but thinking of just a black guard for some nasty deer that keep running out in front of me in Montana!
Thanks for your help.
I believe what your looking for is called a snow plow, look it up and I think it will protect your grill better than anything out there. Plus you can plow snow as a bonus.
If you don't mind it being slightly used, I'd look at a truck outfitter in your area, i picked up a ranch hand for $150 installed, the paint's faded, but there's not any rust through.
If you having problems with deer, you might be better off getting something stout like a full bumper. Always seems like the bolt on grille gaurds will shake with just your hands. A bolt on grille gaurd wont protect your truck from deer.
Although I'm all about full bumper replacements, a quality built bolt on grill guard will shed deer all day long. At least the little white tails we have here in Texas. Seen it many times with minimal to no damage to the truck. My dad has a grill guard on his '01 and shoved the trunk of a Toyota all the way to it's back seat. His grill guard flexed just enough to dent his license plate. That and a little scratch on the grill guard was his only damage. Well, he had some pocket book damage too! There is alot of used Ranch Hand stuff out there you can usually pick up cheap. There are many companies out there making pretty stout products, just have to look around.
I have had a Tietjen's Lone Star grille guard since shortly after I got the truck in '02. I have been know to leave a few deer laying by the side of the road. I hit a large whitetail buck at 65 mph with no damage to the grille guard and only a dime sized dent in the chrome bumper. The Lone Star has lower loops that come down in front to aid in protecting the bumper corners.
I have a Ranch Hand grill guard, and my 230lbs cant get it to move at all if I try to shake it. Its built with thicker wall pipe than some of the cheaper ones.
Its a cheap insurance policy for $525 new/installed.
