What is This Fuel Component?
I'm in the middle a front fuel tank, pump and sender change. I pulled this part off of my old pump tonight. It was on the larger of the two fuel lines which I assume is the pressure(?) line. I had to use a special fuel line disconnect tool to get it off. It appears to be a check valve from its internal appearance which would make sense it being on a pressure line. May be a dumb question, but I want to know exactly what this part is for. Thanks in advance!
If your check valve is good in the FPR (you bough a new one) and you leave this check valve on it has caused problems of low fuel pressure. Mostly when someone put one of these on a 1989 or older truck.
Thank you for the explanation. I am a little perplexed as how to apply this knowledge to my situation. I have never replaced my Fuel Pressure Regulator. My truck has never experienced the crossflow issue (I assume by the grace of these check valves). I am going to be installing a new Spectra Premium Pump (FPM). I guess it leaves me with a few options:
- omit check valve when reinstalling call it good, and pray new pump doesnt get damaged
- omit check valve and replace Fuel Pressure Regulator with new one to prevent possibly destroying the new FPM's check valve
- install check valve to protect fuel pump but possibly cause low fuel pressure problems.
Is my survey of this situation correct? These seem to be the choices that I can see. I think the second plan would mitigate the risk and I will probably go with that unless I find a reason showing it to be unnecessary.
Please tell me your opinion! Thanks
Chris
The reason for doing this is they wanted to save money and time by not dropping the fuel tanks. The right way was to replace the FDM but they did not do that, they took the short cut.
As far as I know the bad FPR leting the pressure go to 95-100 PSI was only with the 1993 trucks.
Here is some inforation on this:
1993 FORD F-250 Recalls
1993 FORD F-150 Recalls
Anyways, I think I'll just omit this piece when I install the new tank. Ill check on FPR prices and how it is to R&R one and maybe put a new one in. That would give me warm and fuzzy, seeing how my original one is 20 years old now.
And, like with so many others, you've provided just the help I needed. Thank you SubFord. I just hope I can offer you some help one of these days.
Chris
