Hey guys, I am looking to go to a solid front axle soon. I have a 95 F250 and I am wondering what year range dana60's I can use. I am also wondering what parts i will need besides the axle to do the swap, I don't know much about suspension . And lastly I am wondering what the easiest way to do a 2.5'' lift would be for the front end, I already have the rear all figured out. Thanks in advance!
you can bolt a 86-97 no problem. it will bolt right up. you just need the d60 draglink and tie rods. the leafs are the same, you WILL need a "track bar" a.k.a. "panhard bar" the link bolts up where your ttb does so theres no big deal there. the easiest way to get that lift is to try and get the oem front springs for it too. the ttb have a negative arch when loaded. the f350's with the d60 have a positive arch. about 4" total lift. you can always throw in a add-a-leaf. that will give you the same lift your looking for but stiffen up the ride a bit. OR do the Sky's Off-road Design - Home shackle reversal lift. it comes in a 3" lift and that will improve your ride a ton. they arent very costly either so thats what i would do. either the f350 springs or the shackle reversal kit.
When I did mine I also got the brackets from the cross member under the engine from the 350. Make sure you can get everything from the springs down.
I strongly advise not to use the 250 springs. Unless you like riding pogo sticks. Tried it this past winter and if it wasn't for the seatbelt, there would probably be some dents in the roof from my head smashing into it. I used teh 350 springs from the donor 91 460 single cab truck and the ride is much better. Give a 1 - 1.5" ride height increase.
Also the drive shaft is a seperate animal all of its own. If you use the 350 shaft, you will need to use a 350 yoke for the Tcase. My Tcase is the borg warner 4406 (I think that is the right model number) same as used under the 350 powerstrokes but nobody makes the replacement 350 yoke. So I had to buy an aftermarket one, then modify it to fit. It wasn't that bad to modify. Other have used the 250 shaft, some say it needs to be shortened, others say it doesn't.
