I mounted a set of the Atomic LED clearance lights on the cab of my F-150. The set came with instructions that related only to an existing F-250 or 350 because (I'm guessing) it is considered a set of replacement lamps that will fit into the same mounting holes as the stock ones. And they tell you to use the same mounting hardware you took off the old lights because they don't give you any hardware. But they offer an optional wireing harness which lead me to believe they also provided for "start from scratch" installations. So now I have a set mounted to my roof and harnessed. All the wireing comes down the A pillar and behind the dash. The harness they supply comes with a round connector that plugs into I dont know what... I will probably have to cut off the plug on the harness and find a hot parking lamp line to splice into. That way when the lights go on, so do the clearance lights. The rest of the deal with the strobe patterns and flasher I can figure out. But the initial power for the running lights is what has me hung up. I doubt there is a socket for the harness plug on the F-150. But need to ask if anyone has been there, done that.
Ideally, I am hoping someone will write back that the F-150 has a plug already there and I just can't see it! The other item the instructions talk about is upfitter switches for the strobe pack needs. Can a set of upfitters be mounted in an F-150? I would need a on/off and a momentary.
Thanks,
Bill
t lights. I had to drill the holes in the cab roof to mount the lamps. After screwing up my courage (drilling into a new vehicle) I mapped out the location for the lamps and drilled away.
I will probably have to cut off the plug on the harness and find a hot parking lamp line to splice into. That way when the lights go on, so do the clearance lights.
The hot parking light wire is.... if you follow the harness that goes to the headlight switch, it is the violet(purpleish) wire with a white stripe. Not sure about the strobes??
I read somewhere recently where someone had done this, either on this forum or another one. I'll have to poke around and see if I can find that thread.
Thanks for response. I violet wire( and every other wire going to the headlight switch) is a very small gauge and I figure they are only control lines that supply power to relays that pull the amps required to power the incandescent marker lights. So I want to grab power from one of the lines that directly connect to the bulbs. Does this sound correct or will that violet headlight switch wire support my needs? It would only have to power the led's for normal running. The strobe effect is done with other led's in each housing, power supplied by another wire (22awg).
Here are the pics of the lights installed. The install was fret with worry, first was the week it took me to screw up the courage to drill 15 holes in a new truck. But when finished, I was proud of how it turned out... And damn lucky too! I say this because even with all the pre-planning, I missed a lot. I took shortened that were ripe for failure but got away with it. One thing I did right is purchase a new bit and hole saw. Due to the Paper thin roof skin I knew pushing a dull drill would dimple the roof, not to mention increasing the probability of "walking" the drill across the roof. I got all of my 220 lbs up on top of the roof, trying to spread my weight evenly. This you do not want to do. I was lucky. The roof did buckle but a push from inside popped it back. The drilling left dimples-I told you it was paper thin. But wen t drew the light fixtures tight, the dimples compressed to form the original contour. I was lucky. DO NOT CLIMB ON THE ROOF!
I hooked mine up last week on my 2010 f150 with a 2010 f250 wire harness.
I connected the purple/white wire to the purple/white wire which is after the relay and put the dark wire to a ground.
The lights come on with the parking lights and there have been no problems yet and by the way these are good quality lights good luck.
I cut off the plug and used a but connector on the purple/white wires and a ground screw on the dark wire.
Trust me a mechanic Friend with a tester checked it out for me for beer.
