Looking to add clearance lamps to my 2001. My question is if a 2001 F250 XLT was not factory equipped with roof lights, would there be a harness/ empty plugin somewhere in one of the pillars awaiting the clearance lamp harness? Or do I need to wire these in completely from the light switch or fuse box? I assume there's a harness somewhere in the truck I can tie into?
My 1st Superduty was a 2000 & was not equipped with Cab-Lights either
Your going to need to remove the headliner anyway so pull it down & look, although mine didn't. What I did was wired the (+) in a series & run the single wire down my LH A-Pillar, then used a quick splice to tap into the parking light circuit coming off the headlamp switch. I did install a small in-line Fuse right there. Never had any issues w/it after a couple years of ownership.
Best advice I can give u is to measure a hundred times & cut once
The OEM cab marker lights have the harness included. It plugs into the electrical system behind the right kick panel.
Do you by chance have a picture of which plugin it is? I found two empty rectangular plugs, both with more than a few wires. In the meantime I'll grab a tester and see
There is no harness in the roof, but the connector that the roof harness plugs into is behind the right side kick panel. The connector behind the RH kick panel is a 14 cavity connector. It will probably not have 14 wires in it. The wire harness you need is a Ford F81Z-15A404-AA, which was replaced in late 2003 with a YC3Z-15A404-AA and then to 1C3Z-15A404-AA. If you can find any of the three, they will all work. Search Ebay--you might find one there. There are guys on Ebay who sell complete kits with the 5 lamps and a harness, but I have no idea what kind of $$$$ they get. Do a search on Ebay for "Super Duty Clearance lights or Super Duty marker lights". You should come up with something. Try a local Ford dealer too--the later harness might still be available. I did a search, and came up with this.
All OEM parts, includes very good instructions and a metal drilling template. I bough it to install on a 2004 that my dad bought. Ended up needing a new paint job, so the body shop installed it (but they said the kit made it easy). Told them to just leave the plug behind the passenger kick panel, as most trucks with no overhead accessories have no plug their. One wire just needs a ground, and the other gets wired to the light switch (cant exactly remember, but there is a good explanation of what you need to do)
