Is the fuel pump in the gas tank?

What year?

I don't know about the '84/'85 2.8 L engine.

The '86 and '87 (and maybe some '88's) had two pumps: a low pressure "lift pump" inside the gas tank feeding a high pressure pump on mounted to the frame rail.

'88 on up used a single high pressure pump in the gas tank.

Then, assuming it's still the factory set up, you have two pumps: low pressure in the tank and an in line high pressure pump on the driver's frame rail.
