PO apparently replaced the fusible link from the alternator to the starter relay with a regular piece of wire.
I would like to fix it, to keep from burning the truck down, but, what size should this fusible link be?
It's my sig truck, but the alternator is a 2G, instead of the 1G original, amperage unknown.
Hello neighbor. The rule of thumb that I've been told is that a fusible link should be sized 2 sizes down from what it protects - for example, if you're protecting a 10-gauge wire, then you should use a 14-gauge fusible link. So naturally, it depends on the size wire coming from your alternator output to the solenoid battery-side terminal. Unfortunately, I can't say what that should be. Obviously it would depend on the load placed on your electrical system and how much the alternator must output at peak demand. Hopefully someone else can chime in with some more application-specific info, but at least that's a start.
