Can You ID This Tooth?

My mom found this tooth in her driveway and was wondering what animal it came from. The way she described it to me over the phone as being "real sharp and pointy like fangs", I figured it was some sort of cat like a cougar or bobcat. When I finally got a look at it, I discovered that she must have been thinking the root section was the biting surface. I now think it is probably a Cyote or something from the dog family.

In the bottom photo I used a Canadian penny so that our friends up North can better relate to its size also

If you had of put that tooth beside a Cdn nickel,I would have sworn is was beaver tooth.

I can tell it isn't human.

Have you do a google for a comparison yet?

Can You ID This Tooth?

BACK IN MY DAY WE PUT TEETH UNDER THE PILLOWS....

now the kids are putting teeth under the vehicles? get real, like the tooth fairy has time to look under every car in your driveway?

anyways, to my minimal knowledge i think the two pointy parts are the roots... have you had any large snakes in the neighboorhood lately? looks like something that wasnt properly digested and pushed out the rear exit...

either that or the squirrels in the area have been boxing...

dont hold that snake comment against me, i dont know where you live and i know "down south " they get some big snakes...

I'm with the snake guy. That tooth didn't fall out of anything. My guess is that the animal died and something else carried it off. I've had teeth pulled before and when the roots aren't dissolved it means the tooth didn't come out on its own. If you have squirrels I would venture to guess that they found it somewhere and were going to chew on it for calcium.

Yes,
On the root near the bottom of the photo.

What do you bet that someone wore that as a pendant because it belonged to their pet?

First off I am not a doctor,
That being said I just checked my hounds teeth.
My guess is that tooth is a worn down rear molar of somebodys treasured old pet hound left upper side three from the back.
dog was about 14 years old I'm gonna guess it was a female golden retreiver.
Named................Honey!
Anything else?

Anybody besides me notice that there is no plaque ring where the gum line would be? Even a 6 week old coyote has a ring. I think this is a piece of costume jewelery.

I tried to check my dog's teeth also, but he puts-up quite a fuss when I start probing around in his mouth.

The metallic piece that HWY Apostle pointed out was not metal. It was a thin thread of grass, algae, or moss-like substance.

The opposite side of the tooth does have a more noticeable gumline with darker/dirtier root section.

I really can't see anyone taking the Vise Grips to thier dead dog Rover so they could wear one of its teeth. The collar or possibly license/rabbies tag I could; however, see someone hanging on to.

While on the subject, have you heard about people who have their dead animals stuffed and put them on display in their living rooms? Seems a little creepy to me; who's next, Uncle Al?

That particular tooth is an incisor. It is probably from when some kid was playing tug of war with frisky lab. I would say that you found one that had been particularly weathered.

Maybe a tug of war relic.
Definately not a puppy tooth though it's to worn.
Doubt that someone saved it from their dead pet also.
I'm gonna change my previous guess and go with this new one.
I think it's a wild dog either coyote or wolf, someone picked it up on a trail somewhere and hung onto it.

Yeah I did hear of some of that stuffing of pets going on.
Heres onefor you the horses name was Zartan and he was owned by General Sheridan during the Civil War there was an occasion where the horse was said to have ran 20 miles to get Sheridan to a battle. An infamous poem was born and so ....
a legend... The horse was stuffed after he died and now resides in the smithsonian.
True Story...........
